The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has reaffirmed its commitment to reconciling aggrieved members following the conclusion of the party’s primary elections, as part of efforts to strengthen unity and position the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached at the first State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of the party after the primaries, held at the APC State Secretariat in Asaba.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, said the APC had resolved to initiate a comprehensive reconciliation process across the state to address grievances arising from the recently concluded primaries.
According to him, senatorial executives have been directed to constitute reconciliation committees to engage aggrieved members and foster greater cohesion within the party.
“The party remains committed to ensuring that all aggrieved members are reconciled. We have resolved that senatorial executives should constitute reconciliation committees to address issues arising from the primaries. We urge all party members to put these issues behind them and work collectively for the victory of the APC in the 2027 general elections,” Onojeghuo stated.
He emphasized that the party remains focused on consolidating its structures and strengthening its grassroots support ahead of future elections.
The APC spokesman, flanked by members of the state executive committee, also announced the party’s readiness to conduct primary elections in the six restored state constituencies in Delta State, in compliance with the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The APC is fully prepared for the primaries in the newly restored constituencies, and we encourage all eligible members in the affected areas to actively participate in the exercise,” he said.
On the recent defection of some party members, Onojeghuo maintained that the APC remains open to welcoming back those who left the party, assuring that efforts were ongoing to address concerns and strengthen party unity.
The party also commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his intervention in resolving issues surrounding the unit and ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency.
Onojeghuo noted that the governor’s proactive steps helped to calm tensions and promote peaceful coexistence among the ethnic groups in the area.
“The peace accord brokered by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has significantly reduced tension and created an atmosphere for dialogue and peaceful coexistence among the three ethnic groups in Warri Federal Constituency. We commend him for this statesmanlike intervention,” he said.
Responding to questions on the Delta North Senatorial District primary, Onojeghuo clarified that the exercise was conducted by a committee appointed by the national leadership of the party and described the process as transparent and credible.
He further announced that Senator Ifeanyi Okowa emerged as the party’s candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District.
The APC publicity secretary also expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership and members across the state for the peaceful conduct of the primaries.
“We thank the leadership and membership of the APC for the transparency, peace and maturity that characterized the concluded primaries. These are positive signs of a stronger and more united party,” he added.
The party expressed confidence that its ongoing reconciliation efforts and expanding support base would further strengthen its chances of electoral success in Delta State in 2027.
