The National Assembly Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Delta State has assured party members and stakeholders of a smooth, transparent and hitch-free senatorial primary election across the state.
Chairman of the committee, Eugene Odo, gave the assurance on Monday while monitoring the conduct of the exercise in selected wards in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking with journalists after inspecting the exercise in Wards 9, 4 and 5 in Asaba, Odo expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere, orderly process and impressive turnout of party members participating in the primaries.
According to him, the high level of participation by APC members was a strong indication of the growing acceptance and strength of the party in Delta State.
“What we have seen here today is very encouraging. The turnout is impressive, the process is peaceful and party members have conducted themselves in an orderly manner,” Odo said.
“This exercise is a reflection of the democratic spirit within our party. From the reports we are receiving across the state, the primaries have been peaceful and well coordinated, and we are optimistic that the entire process will remain hitch-free.”
The committee chairman further commended party faithful for their maturity and commitment to internal democracy, urging them to continue to maintain peace throughout the exercise.
“We are satisfied with the level of compliance and cooperation from both electoral officials and party members. I want to appeal to everyone to sustain this peaceful atmosphere as results begin to emerge,” he added.
Odo, alongside members of the committee and the Deputy Chairman of the APC in Delta State, Moses Iduh, visited several polling centres in Asaba where accreditation and voting were ongoing without disruption.
Party members at the various wards were seen voting peacefully under the supervision of electoral officials and security personnel deployed to ensure a credible exercise.
The APC senatorial primaries are being conducted across the three senatorial districts of Delta State ahead of the next general elections.
