President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 persons into the boards and management of 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, as part of efforts to strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery across the country.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
Among the notable appointments is former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, who was named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). He will lead the agency’s board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors complete the board.
President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission, with former member of the House of Representatives, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, serving as Secretary of the Commission.
Other appointments to the commission include Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna States respectively. Dr. Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh and Bello Morenike Iyabode were appointed as members.
The President also redeployed Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who had earlier been appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
Other key appointments include Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Also appointed is Engineer Julius Oloro as Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), replacing the late Dr. A.R. Kamal.
President Tinubu further constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission with Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman. Other members of the board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
In another appointment, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was named Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, succeeding Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund earlier this year.
The President also appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to pursue his governorship ambition in Benue State.
According to the Presidency, the appointments are aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing the efficiency of strategic government institutions.
Announcing the appointments, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments into 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions.”
He added that “all the appointments take immediate effect.”
