Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information in Delta State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has been named the 2026 Media Icon of the Year by the Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards (DIGA) in recognition of his contributions to public communication and service delivery.
Announcing the award, the Co-founder of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards, Mr. Onajite Malcolm Tagbarah, described Aniagwu as a rare public servant who has successfully combined the responsibilities of overseeing rural road infrastructure with serving as the voice of the Delta State Government.
Tagbarah said Aniagwu’s background in journalism and media has enabled him to effectively communicate government policies while ensuring transparency, accountability and public engagement.
According to him, the commissioner has complemented his communication role with visible infrastructural development, particularly through the implementation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
He noted that Aniagwu has helped strengthen public confidence in government by clearly explaining policies and programmes while supervising the construction of critical rural roads across the state.
The award organisers said Aniagwu’s dual responsibilities have distinguished him as both “the voice that builds and the builder who speaks,” adding that he has demonstrated that infrastructure development goes beyond roads and bridges to include building trust between government and the people.
According to the organisers, whether inspecting projects across Delta State’s 25 local government areas or addressing the media on government policies, Aniagwu has consistently promoted accountability, transparency and people-centred governance.
They added that his leadership has shown that effective governance is measured not only by physical projects but also by how clearly government communicates its vision and delivers on its promises.
The Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards said Aniagwu will be honoured as the 2026 Media Icon of the Year at a ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2026, at the Times Event Center in Sapele, Delta State.
The organisers said the award celebrates Aniagwu’s enduring impact on public communication, rural infrastructure development and his role in advancing the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda through effective engagement with the people of Delta State.
