Okowa Humbles Ned Nwoko in Delta North APC Senatorial Primary, Secures Landslide Victory

Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta North Senatorial primary election after recording a resounding landslide win over incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko.

The keenly contested primary election, held across the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District, witnessed massive participation by party faithful and delegates, with supporters describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of Okowa’s political influence and leadership credentials.

Declaring the results on behalf of the party, Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Delta State, Eugene Odo, announced that Senator Okowa polled a total of 113,309 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Ned Nwoko, who garnered 2,612 votes, while Mariam Ali secured 40 votes.

According to the returning officer for Delta North Senatorial District, Nyerovwo Tonukari, the results reflected the overwhelming support enjoyed by the former governor across the district.

“This election was transparent, peaceful and credible. The figures announced are the authentic results collated from the nine local government areas that make up Delta North Senatorial District,” Tonukari stated.

In his declaration, Eugene Odo formally returned Okowa as the winner of the APC senatorial primary.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the party and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is hereby declared winner of the APC Delta North Senatorial primary election,” Odo announced to loud cheers from party supporters and stakeholders.

Moments after the declaration, jubilant supporters erupted in celebration at the collation centre, chanting solidarity songs and waving party flags in what many described as a political realignment in Delta North.

Supporters of the former governor also hailed the peaceful conduct of the exercise, commending the APC leadership and electoral committee for ensuring a smooth and transparent process.

With the victory, political observers believe Okowa has further consolidated his influence in Delta politics, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested senatorial election in 2027.
