The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the emergence of Delta State as the second best governed state in Nigeria in the 2025 Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) Governance Performance Index (CGPI).
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., the party described the ranking as an independent and objective validation of Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, administrative competence and commitment to good governance.
According to the APC, Delta’s placement behind only Kaduna State among the 36 states of the federation confirms the positive impact of the Governor’s M.O.R.E. Agenda and the significant progress recorded across various sectors of the state’s economy.
“This prestigious ranking is a clear, independent and objective validation of the outstanding leadership, administrative competence and transformational governance being provided by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori,” the statement said.
The party noted that the recognition did not come as a surprise to many Deltans, citing visible infrastructural development, improvements in healthcare and education, enhanced security initiatives, youth empowerment programmes and rural development projects across the state.
“For us as a party and indeed for millions of Deltans, this recognition comes as no surprise. It is merely a confirmation of the obvious. Across the three senatorial districts of the state, the footprints of purposeful governance are visible for all to see,” Onojeghuo stated.
The APC further emphasized that the CIAPS Governance Performance Index was based on rigorous assessment criteria rather than political considerations, making the ranking a credible endorsement of the state’s performance under the current administration.
“The CIAPS ranking is particularly significant because it is not based on political propaganda, partisan sentiments or media hype. It is the outcome of a rigorous assessment of governance performance, service delivery and public administration across Nigeria,” the statement added.
The party argued that the recognition further validates the Governor’s people-centred approach to governance and prudent management of public resources, which it said have transformed Delta into one of Nigeria’s leading models of subnational governance.
The APC also used the occasion to dismiss criticisms from opposition figures, insisting that independent assessments and observable achievements have continued to vindicate the Governor’s administration.
“The truth remains that Governor Oborevwori’s sterling performance and growing acceptance among Deltans have continued to unsettle and frustrate political opponents whose predictions of failure have been comprehensively disproved by facts and verifiable results,” the statement noted.
While urging the Governor to remain focused on governance, the party expressed confidence that more national and international recognitions would come Delta State’s way as the administration continues to implement its development agenda.
The APC congratulated Governor Oborevwori, members of the State Executive Council, public servants and the people of Delta State for what it described as a collective achievement, maintaining that the ranking demonstrates that the state is on a steady path toward greater prosperity and sustainable development.
