President Bola Tinubu has announced a reward for the national female basketball team, D’Tigress, following their recent victory as each player will receive $100,000 alongside a flat, in recognition of their outstanding achievement.
The announcement was made on Monday during a reception held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented the President at the event.
In addition to the players’ rewards, the coach and the technical team were each granted $50,000. National Honours were also conferred on the entire team, including the coaching and technical staff.
President Tinubu praised the team for making Nigeria proud and highlighted their victory as a powerful symbol of unity and excellence.
He described the players as ambassadors of the nation and role models who have demonstrated the strength of teamwork and determination.
“Your victory is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. You have brought home not just a trophy, but valuable lessons for all Nigerians,” he said.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also expressed her admiration, emphasizing that the win was not merely a sporting success but a strong statement of hard work and national pride.
She encouraged Nigerian girls and women to pursue greatness, citing the team’s accomplishment as an inspiration.
With this gesture, the Tinubu administration continues to recognize the impact of sports in uniting the nation and celebrating the achievements of Nigerian women on the global stage.
