Peter Obi Unveils Vision for Productive, Prosperous Nigeria, Pledges Education, Healthcare and Industrial Reforms

The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has outlined his vision for building a productive and prosperous Nigeria, with a strong emphasis on education, healthcare, industrialisation and human capital development.

In a statement released on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Obi said his administration would pursue policies aimed at promoting national unity, social justice, equity and inclusive development while reversing the declining standard of living across the country.

He stated that in the coming weeks and months, he would continue to unveil a comprehensive roadmap that would curb abuse in government, strengthen national cohesion and place Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and prosperity.

“When I decided to contest for the office of President of Nigeria, I pledged to place Nigeria on the path of unity and national transformation. As the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate, I will provide insights into the roadmap that I am confident will help curb abuse in government, halt the decline in the quality of life of Nigerians and usher in an era of unity, peace, sustained progress and prosperity,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State Governor identified education and healthcare as the foundation of his development agenda, describing human capital as the most critical infrastructure for national progress.

According to him, his administration would prioritise reforms capable of unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s youthful population through strategic investments in education and skills development.

“Robust human capital is indispensable infrastructure for national progress. It serves as the fundamental capital upon which daily life, economic expansion and the delivery of essential public services depend,” he stated.

Obi disclosed that one of the immediate priorities of his administration would be the establishment of a national task force to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children.

He also pledged to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through improved funding, modern equipment and partnerships involving government, the private sector and faith-based educational institutions.

The NDC presidential candidate explained that the initiative would support apprenticeship programmes modelled after Germany’s dual education system and provide the skilled workforce required to drive industrialisation.

“The situation in which unemployment remains high while Nigerian entrepreneurs establish businesses elsewhere because skilled labour is scarce must be confronted decisively. Doing so is essential for the common good and for facilitating our transition from a consumption-driven economy to a production-driven one,” he said.

Obi further revealed plans to promote agriculture-based industrialisation through value addition and the establishment of industrial parks across development zones in the country’s geopolitical regions.

He added that character and civic education would also receive significant attention under his proposed governance framework, stressing that trust, leadership and shared national values remain essential ingredients for national development.
