The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has clarified that its Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries will still hold nationwide on Friday, May 29, 2026, in line with its earlier schedule.
The clarification was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Moses Cleopas, and the National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu.
According to the statement, the party reviewed its activities in view of the ongoing Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and the accompanying public holidays, which have caused major transportation and logistical difficulties across the country.
The party noted that the non-availability of flights and other travel challenges left many aspirants who had travelled to Abuja for the screening exercise, as well as members of the screening committee, stranded in the Federal Capital Territory.
Consequently, the NDC said Thursday, May 28, would now be dedicated to arrivals, documentation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, consultative meetings, and other preparatory activities ahead of the primaries.
The party further disclosed that stakeholders’ meetings involving party elders, aspirants, and relevant officials would also be held across various states on May 28.
The NDC stressed that no government agency, including the Police, INEC, Department of State Services (DSS), or any other security agency, is expected to participate in the activities and meetings scheduled for May 28.
It warned that any activity conducted outside the approved guidelines would be considered unauthorized and illegal.
The party outlined the order of proceedings for the May 29 primaries to include presidential affirmation, National Assembly primaries and affirmations, State Assembly primaries and affirmations, as well as governorship primaries and affirmations.
According to the statement, all results from the exercises would be collated and forwarded to the party’s National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee (NWC) would officially announce the outcomes.
The NDC also emphasized that no state executive or team has been authorized to announce results independently.
While calling for understanding among party members and aspirants, the leadership urged all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, reiterating that the party maintains zero tolerance for violence, disorderly conduct, and hooliganism during the exercise.
