The All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, has dismissed allegations by former Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of threats to his life and that of his family members, describing the claims as politically motivated and an attempt to attract public sympathy ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party, in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., on Thursday, said there was no connection between the allegations and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Government or the APC.
According to the party, “Delta APC categorically rejects any insinuation that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Government or our party has anything whatsoever to do with any alleged threat against Sen. Omo-Agege or his family.”
The APC maintained that Governor Oborevwori, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, remained committed to protecting the lives and property of residents, describing it as “unthinkable” for anyone to accuse the governor of sponsoring threats for political purposes.
The party further described Omo-Agege’s allegation as “a cheap attempt to attract unnecessary attention, manufacture public sympathy and distract from the real issues before the people of Delta State.”
It challenged the former senator to submit any evidence of threats to the appropriate security agencies for investigation, saying that if he genuinely believed that his life or that of his family was in danger, the proper course of action was to seek official protection and investigation.
“If he genuinely believes his life or that of his family is under threat, he should immediately present whatever evidence he possesses to the appropriate security agencies for investigation,” the statement said.
The APC also accused Omo-Agege and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) of lacking a credible campaign strategy to challenge what it described as the achievements of the Oborevwori administration.
It said the alleged attacks were intended to divert attention from the administration’s performance, particularly in infrastructure development across the three senatorial districts of the state.
According to the party, “The reasonable conclusion is that both Sen. Omo-Agege and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) are bereft of any credible campaign strategy or ideas to counter the superlative performance of the administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori.”
Delta APC also reminded Omo-Agege that Governor Oborevwori is not a candidate in the Delta Central Senatorial election, urging the former senator to focus on his own contest.
“For the records, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, is not a candidate on the Delta Central Senatorial ballot alongside Sen. Omo-Agege,” the party said.
The APC subsequently urged Omo-Agege to desist from what it described as “unprovoked attacks” on the governor, insisting that such attacks would not alter the outcome of the forthcoming election.
The party expressed confidence in its candidate, Senator Ede Dafinone, saying Omo-Agege would be defeated at the polls.
“Delta APC remains resolute in defending the integrity and image of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, and our great party against every attempt to mislead the public or tarnish their image for narrow political gains,” the statement added.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to the APC’s political agenda in the state, concluding with its slogan: “APC, Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E. Agenda.”
