Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged newly appointed public office holders in the state to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, accountability and professionalism, stressing that public office is a call to selfless service.
The governor gave the charge on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Brave Enodeh and Mr. Moses Ogodo as Commissioners and members of the Delta State Executive Council, Mr. Cosmas Igbenije as a member of the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), and Chief Joseph Ojobu, Chief James Obeuwou and Mr. Fun-Ebi Edonyabo as members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission.
Speaking at the ceremony in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori said the appointments carry enormous responsibility and challenged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary service.
“Your appointments come with the responsibility of strengthening governance and advancing development across the state. You must uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability in the discharge of your duties,” the governor said.
Oborevwori explained that the appointments of Enodeh and Ogodo followed the resignation of two former commissioners who left the State Executive Council to contest the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly elections.
He urged the commissioners to provide purposeful leadership while ensuring transparency and fairness in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
“Your actions should inspire public confidence and reinforce our administration’s commitment to the MORE Agenda. Leadership demands discipline, dedication and an unwavering commitment to duty,” he stated.
Addressing Mr. Cosmas Igbenije, the newly inaugurated DESOPADEC board member, the governor called on him to contribute meaningfully to the commission’s mandate of improving the living conditions of people in oil-producing communities.
Oborevwori recalled that the tenure of the current DESOPADEC Governing Board was recently extended by one year to ensure continuity in ongoing developmental projects.
According to him, the board has made remarkable progress in delivering roads, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, electricity infrastructure, water projects and other community-based initiatives across the state’s oil-bearing communities.
“I am confident that the board will consolidate on these achievements by expanding infrastructure development and deepening human capital investment. Continue to involve host communities in decision-making so that projects truly reflect their needs and aspirations,” he added.
The governor also charged the newly inaugurated members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission to uphold the independence and credibility of the judiciary by carrying out their constitutional responsibilities with fairness and impartiality.
He noted that the commission’s mandate requires individuals of proven integrity and unquestionable character, especially in matters relating to the appointment, promotion, discipline and welfare of judicial officers.
“Discharge your responsibilities with fairness, transparency, impartiality and the fear of God. Together, we must sustain a corruption-free, independent and effective judiciary that will continue to inspire public confidence,” Oborevwori said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and pledged continued support for the judiciary to strengthen the justice system and position Delta State as a model for judicial excellence.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the newly sworn-in Commissioner, Mr. Brave Enodeh, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity to serve.
“We deeply appreciate Your Excellency for this confidence reposed in us. We assure you that we will remain loyal to your vision and work diligently to advance the MORE Agenda for the benefit of all Deltans,” Enodeh said.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, political leaders, judicial officers and other dignitaries who witnessed the inauguration of the new appointees.
