Delta State Government is set to introduce a comprehensive, technology-driven Criminal Information System (CIS) designed to capture biometric data and complete criminal records of offenders across every stage of the justice process.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, disclosed this on Friday during the fourth-quarter meeting of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) held in Asaba. He said the initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, aimed at strengthening justice delivery and enhancing security architecture in the state.
According to Ohwovoriole, the CIS will digitally store vital biometric details including fingerprints, eye colour, and full criminal profiles of individuals—whether arraigned, awaiting trial, prosecuted, convicted or currently in custody. He added that the system will not only support policing and prosecution but will also provide long-term benefits such as background checks, employment screening and passport processing.
The Attorney-General revealed that implementation of the project is already underway, with full deployment expected within the next three months.
Speaking at the meeting, LOAN National President, Comrade Ernest Edomwonyi, commended law officers for their steadfast role in upholding justice across the country. He reiterated the need for holistic reforms in the justice sector, particularly in the areas of remuneration, improved working conditions and continuous capacity-building for legal officers.
The event drew legal officers from across the country, with discussions centred on strengthening the justice system through innovation and institutional support.
