The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking across Asaba, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that operatives attached to ‘B’ Division, Asaba, in collaboration with the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Eagle Net Special Squad, apprehended a 21-year-old suspect, Amara Nwako, an indigene of Oko, for allegedly robbing a female victim at gunpoint in the BONSAAC area of Asaba on October 1, 2025.
According to Edafe, intelligence-led operations led to the suspect’s arrest, while his accomplice escaped into an uncompleted building during the encounter. A locally made pistol was recovered from the scene. Preliminary investigations, he added, revealed that the suspect is allegedly linked to the Arobaga secret cult. The police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing accomplice.
In a related operation, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), under the command of CSP Nosa Alex, on October 3, 2025, raided a suspected criminal hideout around the Basket Market area in Asaba, following credible intelligence.
During the raid, three suspects — Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19) were arrested. Officers also recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol from the location. While the suspects are currently in custody, investigations are ongoing to trace other gang members and recover additional weapons.
Similarly, on October 2, 2025, the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, working in synergy with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck with registration number 3BGT 18 LG. The vehicle, driven by Dennis Uruma (52) from Kogi State, was found loaded with suspected illicit drugs. The driver was arrested, while the counting and measurement of the seized substances are ongoing.
Reacting to the series of arrests, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism, armed robbery, and drug trafficking.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing the police with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
“The Command will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and community stakeholders to dismantle criminal networks, recover weapons, and disrupt the illicit drug trade in Delta State,” Abaniwonda assured.
