Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday led calls for increased energy investments in the state at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) State-by-State Roundtable Engagement, held at Abuja.
The high-level forum, organized by the REA, brought together policymakers, energy investors, and key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to deliberate on sustainable strategies for expanding electricity access—particularly in underserved communities.
With the theme “Unlocking Distributed Energy Investments for Industrial Growth and Inclusive Access in Delta State,” the event focused on driving energy solutions that can catalyze economic development, support local industries, and improve quality of life for residents across Delta.
Governor Oborevwori, who is scheduled to deliver a special address at the roundtable, emphasized the state’s readiness to partner with investors and development agencies in scaling up distributed energy solutions such as mini-grids, solar systems, and hybrid power projects.
“Reliable energy access is critical to our development ambitions,” the governor noted in a pre-event statement. “Delta State is open for business, and we are creating an enabling environment for public-private partnerships that will deliver power to our people—especially in rural and peri-urban areas.”
The REA’s roundtable series is part of a broader national effort to decentralize energy planning and foster collaboration between the federal government, state governments, and the private sector. By highlighting state-specific energy needs and opportunities, the forum aims to accelerate investment decisions and project implementation.
Industry leaders present at the Abuja event welcomed Delta State’s proactive approach, pointing to the region’s economic potential and demand for industrial-scale energy solutions.
With this engagement, Delta State takes another bold step toward bridging its energy gap, aligning with Nigeria’s national electrification goals and sustainable development targets.
