The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, on Thursday, February 6, 2026, received in audience former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, who paid a courtesy visit to the monarch at his palace in Asaba, Delta State.
Welcoming Mr. Obi and members of his entourage, the revered traditional ruler described the visit as deeply significant, noting that his relationship with Mr. Obi transcends politics and spans over three decades of brotherhood and family friendship. The Asagba, fondly referred to as Nna Agu, expressed profound appreciation to the visitor, popularly known as Okwute Igbo, for finding time to visit the palace despite his busy schedule.
“You have been a family friend and a brother for about 30 years or more. We truly appreciate you for stopping by the palace, regardless of your tight daily engagements,” the monarch said.
HRM Prof. Azinge extolled the personal virtues of Mr. Obi, describing him as a man of integrity, discipline, and uncommon commitment to public service. According to the monarch, Mr. Obi’s track record speaks volumes about his leadership capacity. “All we can say is that you are a good man, and if given the opportunity, we can also say without equivocation that you will offer good leadership at any point in time,” he stated.
The Asagba further described the visit as a demonstration of enduring friendship and loyalty, noting that it brought honour not only to the palace but to the entire Asaba community. He thanked Mr. Obi for the respect shown to the traditional institution, emphasizing that such gestures reinforce unity, mutual respect, and shared cultural values.
In his remarks, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi expressed gratitude to HRM Prof. Azinge for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage. He explained that the visit was purely a mark of respect and regard for the revered monarch and the traditional institution of Asaba.
“This visit is nothing more than coming to pay my respect to a highly respected monarch and elder brother,” Mr. Obi said. He described the Asagba as an outstanding leader who has continued to work selflessly for the progress and unity of the Asaba people.
Mr. Obi stressed the need for collective support for the monarch in his efforts to promote peace, development, and cultural heritage in the community. “The Asagba remains an outstanding elder brother who is doing well for the Asaba community, and he deserves all the necessary support to succeed,” he added.
