Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for unity within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging party members to set aside differences and focus on victory in the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued on April 30, 2026, Omo-Agege reacted to comments reportedly made by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, during a lecture in Lagos where he referenced the 2023 governorship election.
While noting that he would have responded differently if they were in opposing parties, Omo-Agege emphasized that both leaders now belong to the APC and must prioritize unity.
“What Delta APC needs today is not division, but unity,” he said. “As a frontline leader in our party, my goal is clear: to secure victory for every APC candidate — from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu down to our House of Assembly candidates.”
The former governorship candidate stressed that the 2023 election is settled, acknowledging the Supreme Court’s ruling which upheld Governor Oborevwori’s victory.
“The Supreme Court has spoken, and its decision is final. And I respect the judgment fully. Re-litigating the matter in the media or at public events serves no useful purpose,” he stated.
Omo-Agege, however, expressed pride in his electoral performance, highlighting the over 240,000 votes he secured in Delta Central Senatorial District.
“To every Deltan who supported me in 2023… I am forever grateful. You have my assurance: I owe you… an even greater level of service.”
He also used the opportunity to appeal directly to Governor Oborevwori to work towards reconciliation within the party.
“I respectfully urge His Excellency… to join me in fostering healing, reconciliation, and inclusion. We must silence every voice and action that seeks to divide us.”
Reaffirming his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, Omo-Agege pledged to work with the governor to deliver Delta State for the APC in 2027.
“Only a united APC can deliver Delta State… I gave my word… that I would work with our Governor to unify the party and deliver victory in 2027.”
Addressing his supporters, he urged restraint and civility in political engagement.
“Keep your heads high. Do not engage in negativity… As you canvass support… do so with civility, dignity and respect.”
Omo-Agege further highlighted his legislative achievements, including his role in establishing key federal institutions in Delta State such as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale.
“These are not claims. They are facts — part of our legacy of bold, transformative leadership.”
He concluded by reiterating the need for cohesion within the party.
“Let us choose unity over division. Let us choose victory over vendetta. In Delta APC, unity must be more than talk. It must be our strength.”
