Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has forwarded to the State House of Assembly a bill seeking the enactment of a law to provide for the payment of thirteenth-month salary to public servants in the state.
The bill, alongside other amendment bills and executive communications, was conveyed to the House in separate letters and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary.
In his letter, Governor Oborevwori said the State Executive Council had earlier approved the payment of thirteenth-month salary to public servants as a welfare initiative aimed at boosting workers’ morale, productivity and overall wellbeing.
The Governor said the proposed legislation would provide the necessary legal framework for the payment of the thirteenth-month salary, which would be equivalent to one gross monthly salary for eligible public servants.
He urged the lawmakers to give the bill expeditious consideration and passage, stressing that the initiative was designed to further motivate workers and strengthen their commitment to effective service delivery.
The Governor also forwarded bills seeking to amend the High Court Law, 2023 and the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal Law, 2001.
According to him, the proposed amendments have become necessary to increase the number of judges in the Delta State High Court from 45 to 50, including the Chief Judge, while the number of judges in the Customary Court of Appeal would rise from nine to twelve.
Governor Oborevwori explained that the increase would enhance the effective and efficient administration of justice and help address the growing demands on the state’s judicial system.
In another communication, the Governor nominated Mr. Emasogbe Matthew Oghene for appointment as the State Auditor-General.
Governor Oborevwori said the nomination followed the retirement of the former Auditor-General and urged the House to consider and confirm the nominee in accordance with the law.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, subsequently directed the nominee to submit thirty-five copies of his curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk on or before Monday, September 7, 2026.
Mr. Emasogbe is expected to appear before the House for screening on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Meanwhile, Governor Oborevwori has notified the House of his intention to proceed on a two-week working leave with effect from Monday, September 7, 2026.
The notification was formally communicated to the lawmakers during the plenary.
