It was a vibrant morning of fitness, prayers, and purpose as the Wife of the Governor of Delta State and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, led hundreds of women and supporters in a fitness exercise tagged “You Matter Walk for Life” in Asaba, the state capital.
The walk, held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, kicked off at the Inter-Bau Roundabout and stretched through the Anwai–Illah Road, ending at the Office of the First Lady, New Government House, Asaba. Participants, clad in colourful sportswear, were encouraged to complete a 10,000-step challenge, featuring aerobics, praise sessions, and moments of prayer.
In her remarks, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative was inspired by the desire to promote healthy living, spiritual renewal, and social connection among women and families across the state.
“The goal of today’s walk is to achieve 10,000 steps! How do we reach this? By multiplying our individual efforts — one step at a time — walking together in unity and with a shared sense of purpose,” she stated.
She further emphasized that the You Matter Walk for Life was not just a fitness event but “a movement of purpose,” aimed at fostering wellness and transformation.
Citing 1 Timothy 4:8, the First Lady encouraged participants to pair physical exercise with spiritual growth for total well-being.
“A healthy body gives us the strength, clarity, and confidence to pursue our goals and fulfill our divine purpose,” she added.
Deaconess Oborevwori commended the massive turnout of women, describing their participation as proof of unity and collective commitment to building a stronger Delta. She also appreciated the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), fitness coaches, and the Government House Chaplaincy team for ensuring coordination, safety, and spiritual guidance throughout the event.
“We have prayed, stretched, danced, and shared in the spirit of fun and togetherness. My prayer is that we all return home healthier, stronger, and happier than we came,” she remarked, promising that the walk would become a regular feature of her foundation’s wellness initiatives.
In a brief exhortation, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemene, urged participants to embrace humility, unity, and service to God and humanity.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Timiebi Guwor, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to the Governor’s wife for her “motherly love and inspiring leadership,” praying for divine strength upon her to continue her charitable endeavours and support her husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in his developmental agenda for the state.
The maiden edition of the You Matter Walk for Life concluded with prayers for peace, health, and progress in Delta State, as jubilant participants celebrated the success of the event with cheers and songs of thanksgiving.
