Peter Obi Joins ADC, Calls for United Opposition Ahead of 2027

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed political party, signaling a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi announced his move on Wednesday, December 31, in Enugu, where he said the decision was driven by the need to “transform and rescue Nigeria” from its current challenges.

According to the former Anambra State governor, the new political alignment marks the beginning of a renewed struggle for national rebirth. He expressed optimism that the coming year would usher in a collective effort toward change.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said.

He also pledged that the coalition would oppose electoral malpractice, stressing that efforts would be made to resist rigging through lawful means during the 2027 elections.

Obi further called on opposition leaders across the country to close ranks and work together as one family under the leadership of former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, in order to rescue the nation.

The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including Senator David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; former governors from the South-East; and other notable dignitaries.

Also present were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Senators Ben Obi, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, Gilbert Nnaji, Enyinnya Abaribe, and Sam Egwu; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; as well as several serving and former members of the National Assembly.
