Breaking: Adeleke Joins Accord Party Ahead of 2026 Governorship Race

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally defected to the Accord Party, setting the stage for his re-election bid on the party’s platform in 2026.

Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday evening during a brief ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo. The event was attended by national and state executives of the Accord Party.

The move comes days after a resignation letter, dated November 4, surfaced online on December 1, prompting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a primary that produced Adebayo Adedamola as its governorship candidate.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor confirmed that Accord Party is now his new political base. Adeleke explained that he quietly joined the party on November 6, following weeks of wide consultations with political associates, stakeholders, and opinion leaders.

According to him, the party’s philosophy of welfarism influenced his decision.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission aligns with our commitment to the welfare of citizens and workers,” he said.

Adeleke, who highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure and social services, said the new political platform would strengthen efforts to deliver inclusive governance and protect the interests of all groups in the state.

He stressed that residents of Osun State were eager for continuity in governance, expressing confidence that Accord Party would secure victory in the August 2026 governorship election.

“This is our platform for victory in 2026. Osun voted for good governance in 2022 and will stand for continuity,” he declared.

The governor urged party members to remain united as they prepare for the election, describing the moment as historic for the political landscape of the state.
