President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings following recent attacks in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The President was scheduled to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit holding in South Africa and subsequently attend the 7th AU-EU Summit in Angola. However, he suspended his departure after receiving reports of the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Tuesday’s assault on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to a State House statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has directed the Nigerian Police Force and the military to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. He also ordered security agencies to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.
The President is awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi State on his behalf—as well as from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding both incidents.
Reiterating his stance on security, President Tinubu charged security agencies to intensify efforts and ensure the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls.
The Presidency assured Nigerians that the government remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and restoring peace across affected communities.
