The family of Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging the death of their father, describing the claims as misleading and malicious.
In a statement issued on behalf of the family, the spokesperson expressed appreciation to friends, associates and well-wishers who reached out with prayers, phone calls and messages following the rumour.
“We sincerely appreciate the concern and love shown to our family. To the glory of God, our father is well and very much alive,” the statement read.
The family, however, accused a social media user identified as Onriode Umukoro and his associates of deliberately spreading false information, alleging that it was not the first time such claims had been made about the former governor.
According to the statement, “Seeking attention through misinformation is irresponsible and has real consequences for the individuals and families affected.”
The family further cautioned against the spread of fake news, stressing that silence should not be mistaken for weakness.
“As a full-grown man, you and common sense should walk in the same direction and not opposite sides. Person quiet no mean say e be fool,” the statement added.
It also disclosed plans to pursue the matter through appropriate legal channels, expressing hope that the action would serve as a deterrent to others.
“We will address this through the appropriate channels, and by the time we are done, I hope it will serve as a lesson to you and others to understand that words carry weight and misinformation has consequences,” the statement concluded.
The family once again thanked everyone who showed genuine concern and offered prayers, saying they do not take the outpouring of love and support for granted.
