Tinubu Reconstitutes Military Leadership, Appoints New Service Chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the nation’s security hierarchy, appointing new Service Chiefs as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s defence and security architecture.

In the changes announced on Friday, General Olufemi Oluyede takes over as Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. The President also named Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff.

Similarly, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke was appointed Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the Chief of Naval Staff.

However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye, retains his position.

The statement issued by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, noted that the decision underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the capability, professionalism, and responsiveness of the Armed Forces.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” acknowledging their contributions during their tenure.

The President charged the newly appointed military chiefs to demonstrate exemplary leadership and uphold the highest standards of military discipline and cooperation in safeguarding the nation.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
