President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name of Professor Joash Amupitan to the Senate for confirmation as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session. The President’s correspondence, which included several other nominations for legislative approval, was submitted in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

According to the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the upper chamber has referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration.
