The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Warri Zone, has uncovered an illegal baby factory operating under the guise of a hospital along Orhuwhorun Road in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State.
Chairman of the NMA Warri Zone, Dr. Djebah Bright, confirmed the discovery, which was made during one of the association’s routine monitoring exercises aimed at identifying unregistered facilities and curbing medical quackery in the region.
According to Dr. Bright, the facility was being run by unqualified individuals and housed four babies at the time of the inspection.
“We were carrying out our routine monthly monitoring exercise to identify medical quacks and illegal facilities when we discovered this operation,” he stated.
Following the discovery, the association immediately notified the police, who arrested the operator of the facility and an auxiliary nurse found feeding the babies.
“The owner of the illegal facility and one of her auxiliary nurses were taken into custody by the police,” Dr. Bright confirmed.
He further disclosed that the rescued infants have been relocated to an undisclosed orphanage in Asaba, where they are now receiving proper care.
“The babies are currently safe and being cared for at a secure orphanage in Asaba,” he added.
Dr. Bright emphasized the NMA’s ongoing commitment to protecting public health by exposing quack practitioners and closing down unregistered and unsafe medical facilities across the state.
