Bayelsa State has been thrown into deep shock following the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed in his office shortly after noon on Tuesday. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, but doctors confirmed him dead after all attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Sources within Government House said the Deputy Governor was attending to official engagements when he slumped without warning.
The news of his demise was also corroborated by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Until his death at the age of 60, Senator Ewhrudjakpo had served as Bayelsa’s Deputy Governor since February 2020. He was previously a member of the National Assembly, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
Further details about the incident remain unclear, as the state government is expected to issue a formal statement.
