Sagboje Emerges as NYCN Delta Chairman, Promises Unity, New Dawn for Youth Development

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta State Chapter, has entered a new phase of leadership with the election of Comrade Milton Odiri Sagboje as Chairman, following a peaceful congress in Asaba on Tuesday.

The congress, attended by over 200 delegates representing all 25 local government areas and 26 recognized voluntary youth organizations, witnessed a unanimous vote as Sagboje and 26 other aspirants were elected unopposed.

The exercise, supervised by the Electoral Committee chaired by Dr. Amechi McDonald, culminated in an immediate swearing-in ceremony conducted by Barr. Emodi.

In his inaugural speech as Chairman, Sagboje paid glowing tribute to past leaders of the council for laying the foundation for youth engagement in the state. He thanked delegates for their confidence and assured Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the unwavering support of Delta youths in advancing the state’s development agenda.

To strengthen cohesion within the council, Sagboje announced the setting up of a peace and reconciliation committee to reconcile differences and foster unity among stakeholders.

The event also drew goodwill messages from prominent figures. Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Hope George; and former NYCN President, Ambassador Mayor Enujeko, described Sagboje’s emergence as a “new dawn” for Delta youths and pledged their solidarity with his administration.

Earlier in his charge to delegates at the Unity Congress, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. ThankGod Trakiriowei, urged youths to live up to their responsibility as ambassadors of the council, the state, and the nation. He emphasized the ministry’s readiness to provide mentorship, resources, and platforms for young people to excel.

With his election, Sagboje is set to lead the NYCN Delta State Chapter for the next four years, a period many observers believe will test his ability to build consensus, foster inclusiveness, and drive the aspirations of Delta youths
