The Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, Olorogun Oscar Ishaka, has donated a brand-new 500KVA transformer to Opete Community in Udu Local Government Area of the state, as part of efforts to address the prolonged power outage in the community.
Olorogun Ishaka, who is the Okoke of Udu Kingdom and a former President of Opete Community, said the gesture was borne out of his genuine desire to contribute to the development of the community and complement the efforts of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori under the MORE Agenda. He noted that the power situation in Opete had been a major source of concern to him, particularly as residents had been without public electricity for over two years following the failure of the community’s transformer. According to him, the prolonged outage had adversely affected economic activities and slowed development in the area.
Presenting the transformer to the leadership of the community, Ishaka appealed to the people to protect it from vandalism and other forms of damage, assuring them of his continued commitment to the development of Opete. He also called for peace and unity among the indigenes, stressing that collective efforts were necessary to move the community forward. He commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as visible developmental strides in Opete, particularly the construction of the Opete Road, and assured the Governor of the community’s support for the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming general elections. “Let me appreciate Governor Oborevwori for giving me the platform to contribute my quota to the development of my community through this appointment,” he said.
The arrival of the transformer in the community at about 10 p.m. sparked wild jubilation among residents and indigenes who trooped out to welcome the truck conveying the equipment. The President of Opete Community, Comrade Sunny Jivwie, and his Vice President, Prince Ojays Fuludu, described the donation as a “rescue mission,” saying it had brought an end to the hardship caused by the prolonged power outage. Jivwie said, “Olorogun Oscar is a leader with a good heart for the community, and we want to appreciate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for appointing him. Because of this, we will give all our votes to the APC. I assure you, Opete is for APC, five over five.”
The community leaders also commended Governor Oborevwori for appointing Ishaka, saying the position had provided him with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of his community. They expressed appreciation for the intervention and assured the Senior Special Assistant of their support, while traders and artisans in the community, who had suffered significant losses as a result of the power outage, expressed optimism that the restoration of electricity would revive businesses and improve economic activities.
One of the beneficiaries, a tailor, said the lack of electricity had prevented her from using her electric sewing machine for more than two years. “I am very happy today because, for over two years since I bought my electric tailoring machine, I have not used it even once. But with the transformer I am seeing today, I know I will start using my machine, and it will help boost my tailoring business. God will continue to bless Olorogun Oscar Ishaka for what he has done for Opete Community,” she said. The event ended with a prayer session by members of the Opete Christian Movement, led by Apostle Fred Kator, committing the restoration of electricity and the new transformer into the hands of God.
