The Delta State Government has officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover Bridge in Ughelli North Local Government Area, marking a significant milestone in the infrastructural development of the area.
The project, undertaken under the administration of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is aimed at decongesting traffic at the ever-busy Otovwodo Junction, a major transit hub for commuters, commercial activities, and inter-state travelers.
Speaking on the importance of the project, Member representing Ughelli North I State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade, Esq., described the flyover as a long-awaited intervention that will transform mobility within Ughelli and its surrounding communities.
“The Otovwodo Junction Flyover is strategically designed to address the persistent traffic congestion that residents and road users have endured for years,” Omonade said. “Upon completion, it will significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.”
He noted that beyond easing traffic challenges, the flyover would also add aesthetic value to the city, positioning Ughelli as a modern and progressive metropolis.
“This project is not only functional but also symbolic,” he added. “It will beautify the city and transform Otovwodo Junction into a modern urban landmark that reflects the growing status of Ughelli.”
Hon. Omonade further commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as people-oriented governance, stressing that the project aligns with the administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, and enhanced peace and security.
“This flyover stands as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to urban renewal, sustainable infrastructure, and responsive governance,” he said. “It is about improving the quality of life of our people.”
Residents of Ughelli North have also expressed appreciation to the state government for the initiative, noting that the project will not only ease movement but also redefine the outlook of Ughelli as a commercial and administrative centre.
The Otovwodo Flyover, when completed, is expected to boost economic activities, improve connectivity, and further strengthen Delta State’s drive towards modern infrastructure development.
