Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Senator representing Delta North, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, describing his death as a painful loss to Delta State and Nigeria.
In a heartfelt tribute, Ochei said Senator Nwaoboshi was a proud son of Ibusa and a committed statesman whose life of service left an indelible mark on Delta North, Delta State and the nation at large.
According to Ochei, he shared a long political journey with the late senator, noting that despite sometimes standing on opposing political sides, their relationship was anchored on friendship, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the progress of their people.
He recalled that their last meeting was on 29 November 2025 at the funeral service of the father of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba, where they exchanged warm greetings. Ochei said he later called Senator Nwaoboshi when he did not see him at the reception, only to learn that he had been unwell, unaware that it would be their final conversation.
Ochei further revealed that during the call, he suggested a meeting of Delta North political leaders before the end of the year, but Senator Nwaoboshi indicated he would not be available in December and asked Ochei to convene the meeting on his behalf, describing him as his second in command.
They both agreed that January 2026 would be a better time to meet, ending the conversation with the hope of seeing each other again.
Describing the late senator as a man of courage, conviction and loyalty, Ochei said that beyond politics, Nwaoboshi was warm, thoughtful and genuinely committed to the welfare of his people.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North and all those impacted by the late senator’s life and legacy, praying that his soul rests in peace and that his memory remains a blessing.
Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, a respected political leader and elder statesman, was widely regarded as a strong voice for Delta North and a dedicated public servant.
