Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has condoled Deltans, particularly the Elue family, following the passing of elder statesman and former Deputy Governor, Sir Benjamin Elue, who died at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of service, unity, and democratic consolidation.
In a heartfelt tribute, Ochei, who is also President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, described the late statesman as a pillar of stability and purposeful leadership.
“Sir Benjamin Elue was not just a political leader; he was a pillar of stability in Delta State. His calm disposition, loyalty to the state, and unwavering commitment to service defined an era of purposeful leadership,” Ochei stated.
He noted that Elue’s influence extended beyond official duties, particularly in Delta North, where he served as a unifying figure.
“In Delta North, Sir Benjamin was a bridge-builder. He united interests, nurtured young leaders, and ensured that our constituency had a strong voice in the affairs of the state. His impact was quiet but far-reaching,” he added.
During his years in office, Sir Benjamin Elue was known for administrative discipline, grassroots engagement, and a deep understanding of governance. He championed inclusive leadership, strengthened party structures, and maintained strong ties with his hometown of Obior.
Reflecting on the personal inspiration he drew from the late leader, Ochei said Elue’s humility and sense of duty shaped a generation of public servants.
“As a fellow son of Delta North, I drew inspiration from his statesmanship and humility. He taught us that public office is a sacred trust, and he carried that trust with honor. His passing is the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to guide us.”
On behalf of his family and the Delta North political family, Ochei extended condolences to Elue’s immediate family, the people of Obior, Aniocha North, and all Deltans, praying for the eternal rest of the departed statesman.
Sir Benjamin Elue, a political figure from Obior in Aniocha North Local Government Area, was widely regarded as a stabilizing force in the state’s political evolution. His tenure as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2007 under James Onanefe Ibori coincided with a formative period in Delta State’s democratic journey.
He is remembered as a leader whose life embodied sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication to Delta State, with contributions to political harmony and institutional stability that remain etched in the history of Delta North and the state at large.
