Just In: Gov. Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC, Cites Need for “Transformative Partnership”

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political realignment in the South-East region.

Governor Mbah made the declaration on Tuesday during a press conference held at the Government House in Enugu, where he was flanked by his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, members of the National and State Assemblies, local government chairmen, and other political leaders.

Speaking at the event, Mbah said his decision to join the APC followed extensive consultations and was driven by a desire to pursue a “visionary and transformative partnership” that would accelerate development in Enugu State and the country at large.

“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC. We share a vision that transformation must be disruptive,” the governor said.

“I have found in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a partner in purpose — a man with the courage to look beyond today and make the tough choices that secure lasting prosperity for tomorrow.”

The governor described his defection as a collective decision by the Enugu political structure, noting that the move involved lawmakers, council chairmen, political appointees, and over 80 percent of party executives in the state.

“This is no whimsical decision,” he emphasized. “It is a collective move by the political family in Enugu State. The voice of Enugu people — and indeed that of the South-East — will now be heard in Abuja.”

While expressing appreciation to the PDP for providing him the platform to emerge governor, Mbah lamented that the South-East region had often been marginalized within the party despite its loyalty.

“To the Peoples Democratic Party, which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude,” he stated. “However, despite our consistent support, our voices were too often disregarded.”

Governor Mbah said he was confident that his new political alignment with the APC would open a new chapter of inclusion, progress, and sustainable growth for Enugu State.

“With this partnership,” he concluded, “we are stepping into a brighter future for our people and our nation.”
