Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, billionaire businessman and philanthropist, has praised his son, global music icon David Adeleke popularly known as Davido for independently financing his own wedding and building an impressive legacy despite being born into wealth.
In a heartfelt statement, Dr. Adeleke revealed that neither he nor Davido’s uncle contributed financially to the singer’s widely publicized wedding, despite offering to sponsor the high-profile event. According to him, Davido respectfully declined any financial support and insisted on handling all expenses from his own pocket.
“David didn’t allow us contribute a dime to his wedding. He did everything from his pocket,” Dr. Adeleke said. “His uncle and I were ready to sponsor, and we were excited given the caliber of invitees that were invited, but he declined our support and did everything himself financially and smoothly.”
Dr. Adeleke, who is known for his low-profile yet influential presence in Nigeria’s business and education sectors, expressed deep pride in his son’s independence and work ethic.
“I was also happy with the network he has built for himself and the success story behind him,” he said. “Very few kids from rich homes struggle to make it on their own. Despite our advantages, this boy took life from zero to a hero.”
He concluded by celebrating his son’s achievements and expressing his unwavering support and admiration.
“I celebrate him every day. That’s my last son but the highest known and celebrated. I wish him nothing but the best.”
Davido, one of Africa’s biggest music exports, has long been admired not only for his musical talent but also for his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to giving back to society through scholarships, charity work, and talent development.
His father’s recent remarks offer rare insight into the personal and familial dynamics behind the superstar’s rise to global fame underscoring a story of grit, discipline, and self-made success.
