Delta State Contributory Health Commission has announced plans to register 10,000 widows under the state’s health insurance scheme, as part of the ongoing Widows Welfare Scheme launched by the State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Director General of the Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, disclosed this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Delta State Social Investment Program team, led by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment and Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta.
Dr. Akpoveta assured that all modalities have been put in place to ensure a smooth registration process, which is expected to be completed within two weeks. He added that the aim is to enable beneficiaries begin accessing healthcare services by September.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare for vulnerable groups, particularly widows, through the Delta State Social Health Insurance Scheme.
“Access to quality healthcare should be a right, not a privilege — especially for the most disadvantaged,” Dr. Akpoveta stated.
The DG also expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support of the Commission’s programs and his dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in the state. He further commended Chief Okonta for his continued efforts in advancing social welfare initiatives that have a direct impact on Deltans.
In his remarks, Chief Isioma Okonta applauded the leadership of the Commission for the significant improvements in service delivery and operational efficiency.
“Governor Oborevwori has shown deep compassion for widows, particularly during these challenging economic times,” Okonta noted, expressing confidence in the Commission’s ability to execute a seamless and efficient registration process.
The highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission’s Scorecard, showcasing its achievements and ongoing initiatives.
This latest effort underscores the state government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and social protection, particularly for the most vulnerable segments of the population.
