Delta Police Command Nabs Suspected Church Robbery Syndicate Members

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a gang that specialises in attacking churches and stealing musical instruments and other valuables.

Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended on September 16, following credible intelligence about a planned robbery at Dominican City Church, located along Polytechnic Road by Sticals Hotel, Ogwashi-Uku.

Acting on the tip-off, operatives from the Ogwashi-Uku Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Israel Okomoyon, teamed up with local vigilantes and intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna van with registration number EFR-150-XB.

The two occupants were identified as 21-year-old Emmanuel Emiowor and 20-year-old Noah Philip, both residents of PTI Road, Warri.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a cache of weapons, including one pump-action gun, three locally made single-barrel guns, a fabricated revolver, one live cartridge, and an iron rod allegedly used to break into churches.

According to the police, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate notorious for night raids on churches. Some of the stolen church properties have already been recovered, while efforts are underway to track down other members of the gang.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated the command’s determination to flush out criminals from the state. He warned that Delta State would not be allowed to serve as a haven for crime, urging residents to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities via the emergency line 08036684974 or at the nearest police station.
