Delta Police Command Cracks Down Armed Robbery Gang, Retrieves Stolen Items, Firearms

The Delta State Police Command has achieved a significant victory against armed robbery, recovering a stolen Mercedes Benz GLK, multiple firearms, motorcycles, and numerous stolen valuables during coordinated operations throughout the state.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, these efforts led to the arrest of several notorious robbery suspects and the dismantling of criminal threats in both Asaba and Ogwashi-Ukwu.

On August 5, around 5:40 p.m., operatives from B Division in Asaba, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a suspected stolen Mercedes Benz GLK parked on Former Deputy Road, Asaba.

The vehicle, bearing registration number NZM10AP, was being sold by a suspect, Chinedu Eze, who was promptly arrested by the Crime Branch team led by Divisional Police Officer, CSP Edewor Akponegware.

Investigations revealed that the SUV had been hijacked at gunpoint in April 2023 in Abakpa, Enugu State, during which the owner was shot. The vehicle, originally registered in 2023 and later fraudulently re-registered in 2025, has now been successfully recovered.

In a separate operation on August 4 at approximately 4:30 a.m., the police responded to a distress call about armed robbers operating on Chelsea Street, Ogwashi-Ukwu. The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Okoyomon Israel, quickly deployed the Anti-Crime Squad along with local vigilantes to the location.

The robbers tried to escape, but two suspects were apprehended: 22-year-old Thywill Selvin from Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and 32-year-old Guntim Bako from Kwale Junction.

Recovered items from the suspects included a pump-action rifle with one live cartridge, a Beretta pistol loaded with six live rounds, three assault rifle rounds, two motorcycles (a Daylong, registration SAP 369 VK, and a Qlink, registration URM 750 QV), as well as twenty-five mobile phones, four laptops, a tablet, a PS4 console, a home theatre set, two Zealot music players, bags of clothing, and other stolen possessions. Several victims have identified their recovered belongings.

CP Abaniwonda praised the swift and decisive action of the police operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led, proactive policing to eliminate criminal activities across Delta State.

He urged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious behavior, emphasizing that timely information is crucial in the fight against crime.

SP Bright Edafe emphasized that these recent successes highlight the Command’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
