Delta Police Bust Drug Ring, Recover Arms in Separate Operations

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the dismantling of an organised drug syndicate in Warri and the arrest of armed suspects during a stop-and-search operation at the Delta–Anambra boundary.

Operatives of the Ugborikoko Division, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug hub in Ugborikoko, Warri, on January 20, 2026, leading to the arrest of seven suspects linked to an illicit drug supply network.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, said the operation began with the arrest of one suspect, whose confession provided vital information that led to the apprehension of six other members of the syndicate.

“During the raid, one suspect was arrested and he gave useful information that assisted our operatives in tracking and arresting six other suspects involved in the drug distribution chain,” Edafe stated.

He added that searches conducted at the suspects’ residences led to the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs and processing equipment.

“Items recovered include several packs of Indian hemp, Canadian loud, Kolorado, Swinol sachets, Tramadol tablets, as well as crushers used for processing and resale of hard drugs,” he said.

In a related operation, the Command also recorded a significant arms recovery on January 22, 2026, during a stop-and-search exercise at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states.

According to Edafe, operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle coming from Anambra State, where a thorough search uncovered dangerous weapons concealed inside the vehicle.

“Our men recovered three pump-action guns, one locally fabricated dane gun, a battle axe and twenty-six live cartridges from the vehicle,” he disclosed.

He said six occupants of the vehicle — Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic, Agbata Mathew, Osita Chineye, Favour Peterson, Prince Tochukwu and Clement Nwakwa — were arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Reacting to the successes, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state through intelligence-driven policing.

“The Delta State Police Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies to rid the state of criminal elements,” the Commissioner said.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding and to support the Police with timely and credible information, assuring the public that all information provided would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
