Delta Police Arrests Notorious Drug Dealer, Intercepts Suspect With 400 Live Cartridges

By Pathway News

The Delta State Police Command has recorded two major breakthroughs in its ongoing war against crime, arresting a notorious drug dealer and intercepting a suspect with 400 live cartridges during separate operations in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Sunday, both arrests were made through intelligence-led policing under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.

The first incident occurred on October 16, 2025, when operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus with registration number NGK 16 XB at the Head Bridge, Asaba.

During a routine stop-and-search operation, the driver, identified as Ozoemenam Sylvanus, reportedly appeared uneasy, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. Their efforts paid off when 400 live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed inside the bus.

“The suspect initially lied that the parcel contained padlocks but was speechless when the real content was uncovered,” the statement read. He was immediately arrested, while the ammunition and vehicle were impounded as exhibits.

Edafe noted that an investigation is ongoing to trace the source and network behind the illegal movement of ammunition.

In another successful operation, police operatives from the Orerokpe Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Onos Afokoghene (37), a notorious drug dealer said to be a major supplier of hard drugs across Warri and nearby communities.

The arrest, which took place on October 10, 2025, followed a coordinated raid led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul Oboware, at a known drug flashpoint in Jeddo Community.

The suspect attempted to flee on sighting the police but was overpowered and arrested after a brief chase. A search of the area led to the recovery of 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of “monkey tail” (Indian Hemp soaked in gin), several sachets of Tramadol, and two POS machines allegedly used for drug transactions.

The police said Afokoghene remains in custody as investigations continue to unravel his drug distribution network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to keeping Delta State safe, urging residents to continue partnering with the police by sharing credible information on criminal activities.

He assured that the Command would sustain its proactive operations across all communities to curb the proliferation of drugs and illegal arms.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities via the Command’s distress line: 08036684974.
