Delta Lawmaker, Omonade Donates Solar Powered Classroom Block To Onyobru Primary School

By Peter Ogege

The people of Onyobru Orogun community in Ughelli North Constituency 1 have commended their representative in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade, for facilitating the construction of a fully equipped block of classrooms powered by solar energy at Onyobru Primary School, describing the project as a remarkable example of service-oriented leadership.

The new classroom block, executed under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) 2023 direct intervention, stands as a tangible reflection of Hon. Omonade’s commitment to quality education and grassroots development.

Speaking during the project’s inspection, Hon. Omonade said the initiative was part of his ongoing efforts to improve learning conditions in public schools across the constituency. According to him, education remains the most powerful investment for community advancement and youth empowerment.

“True leadership is not about speeches — it’s about results,” Omonade stated.
“This project is a promise kept, a dream realized, and a statement that progress is possible when leadership aligns with purpose.”

The lawmaker noted that the new facility — which includes modern classrooms, solar-powered electricity, desks, and teaching materials — was designed to create a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers alike. He added that similar projects were being planned in other communities within the constituency to strengthen the educational foundation of the next generation.

Community leaders and residents expressed deep appreciation for the project, describing it as a timely intervention that has rekindled hope in public education.

Mr. Godspower Efetobor, a parent in the community, said the school had long suffered from inadequate facilities, forcing pupils to study in unconducive conditions.

“Today, we are proud that our children can learn in a decent, comfortable environment. This is what representation should look like,” he remarked.

Another resident, Mrs. Blessing Orogun, thanked the lawmaker for “bringing light” to the community through the solar-powered classrooms, noting that it will enhance both day and after-school learning activities.

The project, which combines functionality with sustainability, is seen as a model for rural educational development — reducing the dependence on grid electricity and ensuring continuous learning even during power outages.

Hon. Omonade reaffirmed his commitment to continue delivering people-centered projects and programmes, emphasizing that his mandate is rooted in integrity, vision, and action.

“Every brick laid and every light powered is a statement of our shared commitment to a better future. We will keep working until every child in Ughelli North Constituency 1 has access to quality education,” he assured.

As the Onyobru Primary School community celebrates this milestone, the project stands as a shining example of “Promises Made, Promises Kept”, reflecting a leadership philosophy where service is driven by results and compassion for the people.
