As the world observed the 2025 World Environmental Health Day on September 26, Deltans have been advised to desist from practices harmful to public health and embrace a sustainable lifestyle.
The charge was given on Friday in Asaba by the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ejiro Jamani, at a seminar organised by the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Delta State Chapter.
Speaking on the theme, “Clean Air, Healthy People”, Jamani said the state government has adopted measures to mitigate climate change, including drainage clearing, mechanical desiltation of waterways, and other resilient interventions.
He emphasized that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda prioritizes environmental sustainability and public safety, while urging residents to see environmental health as a shared responsibility.

Earlier, EHOAN State President, Precious Osugba, described the annual celebration as a time to highlight the role of environmental health officers in safeguarding lives.
Guest speakers, Jeffrey Obadaya and David Onojeharho, in their paper presentations, stressed the need for a concrete environmental action plan, while NULGE President, Comrade Obatarhe Ogberetitinor, praised environmental officers for their commitment.
Activities marking the celebration included sensitization campaigns, tree planting, workshops, and a thanksgiving service
