– SWC Issues Reprimand, Moves to Reinforce Party Discipline
By Pathway News
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern rebuke to two of its Local Government Area Chairmen over what it described as “reckless, unauthorised, and divisive” public statements that risk undermining party unity and discipline.
The development emerged from a high-level meeting of the APC State Working Committee (SWC) held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Party’s State Secretariat in Asaba. The meeting, presided over by State Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, addressed internal challenges threatening the cohesion of the party.
In a statement released after the meeting and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo (Esq.), the SWC particularly condemned recent comments made by Mr. Norbert Suchukwudinma, APC Chairman of Aniocha South LGA, during a media appearance on TVC Television.
According to the SWC, Suchukwudinma’s statements—widely circulated in the media—cast “unwarranted aspersions” on elected representatives of Delta State, including Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko of the Delta North Senatorial District.
“The SWC strongly condemns and disassociates the Party from the said utterances, which were made without the consent, authorisation, or knowledge of the Delta State APC leadership,” the resolution read.
Similarly, the SWC reprimanded Mr. Kerry Ekene, APC Chairman of Ika North East LGA, for what it described as a separate instance of unauthorised commentary made during a media appearance.
The SWC emphasised that only the Office of the State Publicity Secretary is constitutionally empowered to speak on behalf of the party in Delta State.
“No official outside this office is permitted to assume such powers,” the statement added, citing the APC Constitution.
Both chairmen were issued formal reprimands for what the SWC described as a “blatant overreach of their local mandates”, and warned that any recurrence would attract “severe disciplinary sanctions, including suspension.”
In a bid to restore party cohesion, the SWC also nullified all previous suspensions issued by LGA or Ward Executive Committees, declaring them “of no effect whatsoever.” Furthermore, it announced plans to constitute an independent Disciplinary Committee to handle future violations.
The SWC concluded by calling for unity and reaffirming support for the leadership of His Excellency Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Oborevwori and the Renewed Hope For M.O.R.E. Agenda.
“We urge all members to remain loyal and steadfast in support of the Party’s leadership as we work together for the unity and progress of our great Party,” the resolution stated.
The resolution marks a strong step by the Delta APC leadership to reassert control over internal communications and foster greater cohesion ahead of future political contests.
