The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that government officials were using the machinery of government to remove and destroy its billboards and campaign materials across parts of the state.
The Delta APC Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, in a statement on Thursday, described the allegation credited to the NDC State Chairman, Chief Hon. Angiamaowei Richman Oyindoubra, as unsubstantiated.
Onojeghuo said the allegation was part of what he described as “a familiar pattern of a political party seeking to create a sense of victimhood ahead of an election.”
He further alleged that the NDC’s repeated complaints suggested that the party had “already admitted defeat even before the first ballot is cast,” arguing that the opposition party should instead focus on its policies, programmes and candidates.
The APC spokesman, however, said every allegation of wrongdoing should be properly investigated by the appropriate authorities.
He urged the NDC to present any credible evidence of alleged misconduct to relevant law enforcement and electoral authorities rather than making claims that could unnecessarily heat up the political environment.
According to him, “Elections are won at the ballot box, not through press statements,” stressing that Deltans deserved a political contest based on ideas, records and competence.
Onojeghuo said the APC had no reason to fear legitimate political competition, expressing confidence in the record of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the impact of its M.O.R.E. Agenda across the state.
He urged the NDC and other political parties to focus on issues affecting the people and conduct their campaigns peacefully and within the law.
The APC Publicity Secretary maintained that the people of Delta State would ultimately judge political parties and candidates based on their records, ideas, credibility and capacity to provide effective representation and governance.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta APC to a “peaceful, competitive, and credible electoral process,” adding that the party would continue to engage with residents across communities and wards in the state.
