Burutu LGA Chairman, Takeme Appeals To Federal, State Governments for Road, Electricity Infrastructure

By Victor Ucheka

Burutu, Delta State – The Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Hon. Julius Takeme, has made a passionate appeal to both the Federal and Delta State Governments to construct access roads and connect the local government area to the national power grid.

Hon. Takeme made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Hon. Prince Joseph Orhomonokpaye, and a delegation of community newspaper publishers.

According to the Chairman, the lack of road infrastructure and electricity in Burutu has continued to hinder development and significantly increase the cost of governance in the area.

“To run electricity and transport to Burutu through water is extremely costly, especially in the current economic climate,” he said. “We are cut off here. There are no access roads linking Burutu to other cities or local governments in the state. Burutu remains the only local government in Delta State that cannot be accessed by land — only through water.”

During the visit, Hon. Takeme took the team on a tour of several completed and ongoing projects in the local government headquarters, highlighting his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure despite existing challenges.

Projects inspected include; a newly constructed road linking the health centre to the major road, a completed public toilet facility for men and women, two functional boreholes, an ongoing construction of a legislative chamber for councillors, a mini-bank attracted through the council’s efforts.

Others projects include; a five-bedroom apartment for the magistrates of the Customary Court, another road linking the council premises to the major road, approved land for the proposed construction of a new council secretariat.

In response, Hon. Prince Orhomonokpaye commended the Chairman for keying into Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and implementing impactful projects that directly benefit the people. He assured the Chairman that the community newspapers under the MORE Agenda platform would continue to provide accurate and factual coverage of the council’s activities.

Burutu LGA remains one of the most remote and logistically challenging areas in Delta State, and the Chairman’s appeal underscores the urgent need for increased government attention to infrastructure development in riverine communities.
