BREAKING: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Resigns Amid Labour Leadership Crisis

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday announced his resignation as Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, bringing to an end a turbulent period marked by internal party divisions, cabinet resignations and mounting pressure over his leadership.

Pathway News reports that Starmer’s decision came less than 24 hours after United States President Donald Trump publicly predicted that the British Prime Minister “will resign,” a remark that sparked widespread political speculation across the United Kingdom.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, an emotional Starmer admitted he had lost the confidence of key members of the Labour Party and accepted that the party no longer considered him the right person to lead it into the next general election.

“I accept with good grace that my party no longer believes I am the best person to lead them into the next general election,” Starmer said during his resignation address.

He confirmed that he would remain in office until the Labour Party elects a new leader, pledging to oversee an orderly transition of power to ensure continuity and political stability.

Starmer’s resignation follows weeks of growing unrest within Labour, with senior ministers, parliamentary aides and dozens of Members of Parliament openly questioning his leadership after the party suffered heavy losses in recent local elections across England, Scotland and Wales.

The crisis deepened after former Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigned, accusing the Prime Minister of failing to provide the leadership needed at a critical time.

“Where we need vision, we have a vacuum. Where we need direction, we have drift,” Streeting wrote in a strongly worded resignation letter that intensified calls for a change in leadership.

Despite the political upheaval, Starmer defended his government’s record, highlighting achievements including economic growth, rising wages, reduced National Health Service waiting lists, strengthened workers’ rights, increased defence spending and measures aimed at tackling illegal migration.

Reflecting on his time in office, Starmer maintained that his motivation had always been public service rather than political power.

“I never came into politics for power itself,” he said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve while pledging to support a smooth leadership transition.
