Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has led a high-powered delegation to Emede Community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State to assess the extent of damage caused by a recent clash involving some residents and operatives of Operation Delta Sweep.
The visit, undertaken on behalf of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, was aimed at evaluating the impact of the incident and promoting peace in the affected community.
The delegation included the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Hon. Warri Ovoke; President General of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), Prof. Christopher Akpotu; Grand Patron of the IDU, Chief Iduh Amadhe; representatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the military, among other stakeholders.
During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Emede Kingdom, King Johnson Egbo, to express solidarity with the community following the unfortunate incident.
Addressing residents, Senator Joel-Onowakpo described the situation as regrettable and assured the people that the state government was committed to ensuring justice and restoring normalcy.
“While the incident is regrettable, it is my earnest appeal to the good people of Emede, particularly those who lost businesses and properties, to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast in maintaining peace,” the senator said.
He further reassured the community of the government’s resolve to investigate the matter thoroughly.
“The government is fully committed to investigating the matter thoroughly, addressing the wrongs done, and ensuring justice is served so that lasting peace and harmonious coexistence can prevail,” he stated.
Senator Joel-Onowakpo emphasized the importance of dialogue and unity in overcoming the challenges facing the community.
“Together, through dialogue, understanding, and collective resolve, we shall overcome this and build a more united and prosperous community,” he added.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts by the Delta State Government to address tensions arising from the incident and foster peace and stability in Emede and its surrounding communities.
