Delta APC Rejects Purported ‘Coalition for Equity’ Statement, Says Claims Are False, Misleading

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has strongly dismissed a circulating statement allegedly issued by a group identified as the “Delta APC Coalition for Equity,” describing its contents as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform party members and create internal disunity.

In a detailed rebuttal released on Tuesday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., the party said the publication should be ignored entirely by members and the public.

According to the statement, the APC leadership decided to respond in order to prevent innocent members from being deceived by what it described as a carefully crafted narrative aimed at sowing discord within the party.

“The party wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that the contents of the said publication are entirely false, misleading, mischievous, and should be disregarded in its entirety by all party members and the general public,” the statement said.

Congresses Validly Concluded, Ratified by National Convention

Addressing allegations surrounding the recently concluded party congresses in the state, the APC maintained that all matters relating to the exercise had been settled and could not be reopened.

The party said the congresses were conducted in line with the APC Constitution and guidelines issued by the National Working Committee (NWC), adding that the outcomes had already received final approval at the party’s National Convention held on March 28, 2026, in Abuja.

“Every issue relating to the recently concluded party congresses in Delta State is done and dusted,” the party stated.

It further warned that any attempt by individuals or groups to revisit the congresses outside the recognized constitutional channels of the party would amount to political mischief.

“The matter cannot and will not be revisited, as the democratic processes of the party have been validly concluded,” Onojeghuo said.

No 60/40 Sharing Formula, No Presidential Directive

The Delta APC also denied claims that there was ever a 60/40 formula for sharing party structures between so-called legacy members and new entrants into the party.

According to the statement, no such arrangement existed before the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC in April 2025, nor was there any formal or informal agreement tied to his entry into the party.

The party equally rejected claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the implementation of any such formula in Delta State.

“At no time prior to the alignment of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, with the All Progressives Congress in April 2025, was there any agreement, written or unwritten, regarding the sharing of party structures,” the statement said.

It added: “There was never any directive from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria… instructing the Governor or any organ of the party in Delta State to implement any such imaginary arrangement.”

The APC accused the authors of the alleged coalition statement of falsely attributing directives to the President in pursuit of narrow interests.

Reacting to claims that the office of the State Chairman should be reserved for legacy members, the party described the argument as contrary to the constitution and inclusive philosophy of the APC.

The statement stressed that all members, regardless of when they joined the party, enjoy equal rights to seek leadership positions and participate fully in party affairs.

“The Constitution of the All Progressives Congress recognizes all members as equal stakeholders, irrespective of when they joined the party,” the APC stated.

It said no agreement had ever been reached at either state or national level to reserve the chairmanship position—or any other office—for any category of members.

“To suggest otherwise is to promote division and to undermine the constitutional principles upon which our great party stands,” it added.

On references made to ongoing legal disputes, the party said it would not comment on matters already before competent courts.

“As a law-abiding political party that respects the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, the party will refrain from making comments capable of prejudicing the fair and just determination of such matters before the courts,” the statement read.

However, the APC expressed confidence in the judicial process and urged members to remain patient.

The party also rejected claims that ward executives across th ohe state were dominated by new members, describing the allegation as false and intended to generate tension.

According to the statement, executives from the state to ward levels emerged through a broad-based consensus arrangement allowed under the APC Constitution and encourag
