APC Backs Oborevwori’s Claim Delta Is Becoming No-Go Area for Opposition

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s claim that the state is becoming increasingly difficult terrain for opposition parties, attributing the development to what it described as the governor’s strong performance in office and prudent management of public resources.

In a statement issued on Friday in Asaba by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the APC said the scale of infrastructural development across the state under the Oborevwori administration has significantly reshaped the political landscape and strengthened public confidence in the government.

The party was reacting to remarks made by the governor during the commissioning of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road and other interconnected roads in Oko Kingdom in Asaba, located in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori said the level of development being witnessed across the state has made it increasingly difficult for opposition parties to gain political traction.

“During the 2023 gubernatorial election, I secured victory in 21 out of the 25 local government areas even before assuming office. With the scale of development and completed projects across the state within nearly three years, Delta State has now become a strong base for our party,” the governor said.

He noted that his administration remains focused on delivering projects that directly impact the lives of residents, adding that the newly commissioned road networks would improve mobility, boost economic activities and strengthen connectivity among communities.

According to him, the infrastructure projects executed under his administration reflect the government’s commitment to purposeful governance and sustainable development.

Reacting to the governor’s comments, the APC said the claim that Delta State is becoming politically uncomfortable terrain for opposition parties reflects the reality on the ground.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has proven beyond doubt that governance is about performance, not propaganda. Across Delta State today, the evidence of his leadership is visible in the form of completed roads, improved infrastructure and development projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens,” the statement said.

The party noted that the administration’s projects, including road construction, urban renewal programmes, improvements in the education sector and empowerment initiatives for youths and women, have strengthened public support for the government.

It also commended what it described as the governor’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of state resources, saying these have distinguished his administration and earned widespread acceptance among residents.

“The numerous road networks, drainage systems, educational facilities and other critical projects being completed across Delta State have improved the quality of life of residents and reinforced the people’s confidence in government,” the APC added.

The party further claimed that opposition parties in the state have been unable to present credible alternatives due to the administration’s development record.

“The truth is simple and undeniable: the opposition has nothing to offer the people of Delta State. While they remain trapped in empty criticism, Governor Oborevwori continues to deliver real development and meaningful governance,” the statement said.

The APC also pointed to the administration’s MORE Agenda, describing it as a development blueprint that has accelerated socio-economic transformation across the state.

According to the party, the prudent management of public funds has enabled the government to execute multiple infrastructure projects simultaneously without excessive borrowing.

“The people of Delta State are witnessing governance that works. They see roads being constructed, schools being improved and communities being connected. Naturally, they are aligning themselves with progress,” the statement added.

The party maintained that the governor’s achievements have significantly weakened opposition influence in the state and strengthened political support for his administration across communities and political blocs.

“Delta State has indeed become politically uncomfortable terrain for opposition parties because the people have already made up their minds. Deltans prefer performance over empty political hullabaloo,” the APC stated.

The party concluded by urging residents to continue supporting the administration’s development programmes to sustain the momentum of progress across the state.

“With the scale of infrastructure development and responsible governance currently being demonstrated, the political future of Delta State is already taking shape,” the statement said.
