Olu of Warri Inspects Completed Trans Ode-Itsekiri Road In Style, Hails Landmark Infrastructure After 20 Years

Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, has carried out an inspection tour of the Warri Trans Ode-Itsekiri Road and Access Bridges project, marking a historic milestone as the long-awaited infrastructure has finally been completed after two decades.

The monarch’s visit underscored the significance of the project to the socio-economic transformation of Itsekiri communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The 20.9-kilometre road, which cuts across the riverine axis of Warri, had remained a symbol of neglect and unfulfilled promises for over 20 years. Its completion now represents a major breakthrough in improving access, mobility and connectivity for residents who have long endured difficult travel conditions, particularly during the rainy season.

Commending the Governor Oborevwori led administration during the inspection, the Olu of Warri expressed satisfaction with the quality and scope of work delivered on the project, noting that the road and accompanying access bridges would open up previously isolated communities.

He described the development as a turning point that would boost commerce, reduce travel time and improve the overall quality of life for the people.

The Trans Ode-Itsekiri Road branches off to several communities, including Ugbodede, Usele, Ajigba, Inorin, Orugbo and Ode-Itsekiri, before extending to Ifiekporo, Aja-Etan, Ikeren and terminating at Ubeji. All the benefiting communities are within Warri South Local Government Area, making the project one of the most extensive road networks in the area.

Some Palace Chiefs and Community leaders who accompanied the monarch on the tour lauded the completion of the project, describing it as a long-awaited answer to years of advocacy.

Many noted that the road would boost economic activities, facilitate easier transportation of goods and services, and strengthen social ties among the riverine and upland communities.

The road is scheduled to be formally commissioned in the first quarter of 2026. Expectations are high that the commissioning will not only celebrate the completion of a critical infrastructure project but also signal renewed commitment to sustained development and inclusive growth across Warri South and the wider Delta State.
