Delta Assembly to Fast-Track Consideration of 2026 Budget, Says Speaker Guwor

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has assured that the legislature will give accelerated consideration to the 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Guwor gave the assurance shortly after the governor laid the N1.664 trillion budget proposal before lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary.

According to the Speaker, the House, in line with its standing orders, accords priority to all financial bills to ensure the timely execution of government programmes and policies for the benefit of Deltans.

He reaffirmed that Governor Oborevwori remains committed to fulfilling the MORE Agenda, and stressed that the Assembly is equally determined to act in the best interest of the people.

Guwor noted that the Appropriation Bill, which has now passed first reading, will be taken for second reading at the next adjourned sitting.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Speaker commended the Oborevwori administration for what he described as its “steady strides” under the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda. He cited major investments in infrastructure, social welfare, fiscal discipline, security initiatives, and efforts to strengthen economic stability.

He highlighted the continuation of legacy projects, expansion of the state’s road network, construction of five flyovers, improvements in healthcare, empowerment programmes, and progress in the education sector as clear evidence of the administration’s positive impact.

Guwor also expressed appreciation to the Governor for approving and implementing the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) for Assembly workers, as well as for ongoing projects such as the permanent office of the Assembly Service Commission and the Assembly Clinic.

The 2026 Appropriation Bill is scheduled for second reading at the Assembly’s next sitting
