FUNERAL: Ika Community Bids Farewell to Lady Ezinne Grace Okwuokenye, A Matriarch of Faith and Humility

The remains of Lady Ezinne Grace Ngozi Okwuokenye have been committed to mother earth in her hometown, Ogbe Ohun Quarters, Owa Oyibu, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The funeral service, held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Owa Oyibu, was officiated by the Anglican Bishop of Ika Diocese, Right Reverend Godfrey Ekpenisi. In his sermon titled “What Legacy Would You Leave Behind?” drawn from Psalm 90, the Bishop reminded the congregation that life is a sacred but fleeting gift from God.

He stressed that only Christ has conquered death and urged Christians to live purposefully, influence lives positively, and leave behind legacies worthy of remembrance.

Bishop Ekpenisi described the late Lady Ezinne Okwuokenye as a devoted Christian whose life of faith, humility, and service to God had made a lasting impact. He encouraged her children to uphold the virtues she embodied and continue her legacy of unity, compassion, and commitment to the church.

Her remains were later interred at the family residence, in a deeply emotional ceremony marked by hymns, tributes, and heartfelt farewells.

A reception followed at the Owa Secondary School field, where guests were entertained by various cultural and musical performances, including a live band led by Joe Morgan.

Tributes flowed from her children and grandchildren, including Dr. Henry Okwuokenye and Mr. Benjamin Okwuokenye, who described their mother and grandmother as a peaceful, loving, and influential figure whose guidance shaped many lives within and beyond the community.

Also in attendance were several dignitaries such as the Member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Victor Nwokolo, and the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor. They eulogized the late matriarch as a strong, God-fearing woman who lived a life dedicated to service, love for humanity, and the promotion of peace.

The funeral drew a large gathering of family, friends, religious leaders, and well-wishers from within and outside Delta State, all united in celebrating the life of a woman whose legacy of faith, humility, and love continues to resonate.

Lady Ezinne Grace Ngozi Okwuokenye, aged 86, is survived by children, grandchildren, and other relatives. Her memory lives on in the lives she touched.
